Each summer the number of participants grows, which makes it hard for Gardner to get to know everyone on a personal basis, but returners are easy to recognize, he said. The original group consisted of six Lawrence High School football players. During June, the training sessions meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Beginning July 5, the program will expand its workouts from Monday through Thursday, meeting at 6 a.m., noon and 6:15 p.m. A run-walk session is also scheduled each Saturday at 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m in July at the Lied Center parking lot. — Edited by Marc Ingber
