Page 8 University Daily Kansan Tuesday, May 4, 1963 SPU Plans Viet Nam Protest During K-State ROTC Review The Student Peace Union (SPU) continued its protest of U.S. policies in South Viet Nam by voting last night to picket Kansas State University's ROTC Review Thursday afternoon in Manhattan. The KU group will be joined in the demonstration by K-State protest groups, Charles Hook, Glen Head, N.Y., sophomore and SPU president, said. GOV. WILLIAM H. AVERY and members of the Kansas State Board of Regents will be present for the 2:30 review. Tentative plans also were made to picket the KU ROTC review May 21. The SPU will also be one of the sponsors of a debate which will take place in Washington, D.C., May 15. The debate will be between McGeorge Bundy, speaking for the Johnson administration, and Hans Morgenthal, noted economist and professor at the University of Chicago, will oppose the U.S. policy on Viet Nam. The debate will be broadcast across the United States via a conference telephone call. Speakers will be set up in participating educational institutions across the nation, and efforts are being made to obtain Hoch Auditorium for the afternoon of the debate. Hook said. The debate is scheduled to take place between 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. May 15. It is sponsored by a protest group composed of faculty and students at the University of Michigan. Tim Miller, Wichita junior, said that the KU-Y and the Wesley Foundation have indicated interest in helping to sponsor the debate broadcast.
