Illinois prep cager signs letter of intent Ken Norgaard, a standout high school basketball player from suburban Chicago, has signed a national letter of intent with ISU to host trials Iowa State will play host to the United States Olympic wrestling trials for the fourth time, it was announced recently by Clay Stapleton, director of ISU athletics. The dates will be May 9-10-11, 1968, for the free style, and May 12-13 for Graeco-Roman trials. Harold Nichols, Iowa State coach, will be the meet manager. Previous final Olympic mats trials were held at Iowa State in 1948, 1952 and 1960. Kansas, it was announced Saturday by Jayhawk basketball coach Ted Owens. Norgaard, 6-3 and 195 pounds, played both forward and guard for East Layden High School and scored 1,077 points in two years as a regular. The past season he scored 666 points and hauled in 411 rebounds, both school records. He won the DesPlains Valley Conference scoring title with a 25.6 average. Norgaard was chosen first team all-conference both his junior and senior years and was voted the league's outstanding player by member coaches. He also was named to the Illinois All-State team by the Chicago American. He is the eighth high school senior who has signed a scholarship agreement to enroll at KU this fall. The Jayhawks also signed 6-10 junior college ace Dave Nash from Dallas Baptist. Nash will be immediately eligible for varsity play with the Big Eight defending champions. Sidewalk fete Thursday Lawrence Mayor Richard Raney will add a new feature to this year's eighth annual Lawrence Bazaar. During the Bazaar, Thursday. Centennial slated Preparations for the William Allen White Centennial to be held at KU in 1968 are now under way. A fund-raising campaign is now being prepared. The drive, headed by Oscar Stauffer, president of Stauffer Publications, will provide funds to finance Centennial activities. The celebration will begin at KU on Feb. 12, William Allen White Day. Dolph Simons Sr., editor of the Lawrence Journal-World, is chairman of the committee organizing the Day's program. A seminar that will discuss the problems of mass communications is planned for April 28-30 at the Kansas Union and Hoch Auditorium. Raney will start with a shoeeating, then spend the day visiting participating merchants trading the shoestring for increasingly more expensive items. Raney hopes to work his way up to a color TV or used car which will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The proceeds will go to the United Fund. The "Golden Goose" will be shown at the Granada Theater at 1:00 and 2:45. Thursday evening there will be a jazz concert by the Jazz Workshop Band, between 6:30 and 7:30. After the concert there will be a variety show until 8:30. Following the variety show there is to be a street dance between Vermont and Massachusetts on 10th.
