American League trips again to senior circuit

Face the facts. The American League is not quite as good as the National League. The All-Star game proved it.

It is true that Frank Robinson and Al Kaline were missing from

Any reasons given for the American League's loss, their fifth straight, would merely be poor excuses for a poor performance. What is wrong with the American League?

The National League had five players batting over .300 on their starting lineup. The lowest batting average on the starting team, excluding the pitcher, was .282.
Both teams had equally fine pitching staffs. All the runs scored were on home runs, products of a very few bad pitches. But hitting is where the difference between the two teams was in evidence.

The American League, however,
was a different story. They had
only two .300 hitters, and had four
players batting below .282, the
N.L.'s lowest starting average.
The American League's starting
team average was .284 and the
National League's .315. That's
quite a margin, and proved
itself to be the winning margin.
Unless the American League gains a lot of talent, or the National League loses a lot. A.L. fans can look forward to more one-run losses and more disappointments.
