Page 4 University Daily Kansan Tuesday, Feb. 19, 1963 Special Performance Of 'Fantasticks' Tonight The final performance of "The Fantasticks" will be given at 7:30 tonight in the Kansas Union Ballroom. "The Fantasticks" is a musical fantasy about a boy and girl who are tricked into falling in love by their fathers. Consequently, life becomes one romantic dream to the lovers. However, the lovers are awakened from their dream when they are sent into the world by El Gallo, the story narrator. Experiences which they encounter while in the world teach them that life is also pain as well as romance. When the play ends, the audience sees the boy and girl happily reunited and much wiser for their painful experiences. Roger Brown, Topeka graduate, plays the part of El Gallo. The part of the girl is played by Sylvia Anderson, Wilmette, Ill., junior. Thomas Woodard, Des Moines, Iowa, junior, plays the boy. "The Fantasticks" is directed by Philip Harris, Lawrence graduate. It is presented by the University Players, a student dramatic organization, in cooperation with the Student Union Activities. The play which has been on tour to Junction City and Kansas City returned for this special repeat performance. Guests attending tonight's performance will include visiting deans of the Latin American Universities and members of the Kansas State House Ways and Means Committee. Tickets are on sale at the Union Ticket Center for $1. Leftist Venezuelans to Dock Hijacked Freighter in Brazil BELEM, Brazil — (UPI) — A Brazilian naval vessel headed for the mouth of the Amazon River today under orders to escort the hijacked Venezuela freighter Anzoategue here for formal surrender by its rebel crew. A spokesman for the Brazilian Foreign Ministry in Rio De Janeiro said political asylum would be granted to the pro-Communist Venezuelans who seized the freighter last week in the Caribean, en route to Houston, Tex. The Anzoategui was reported anchored in Brazilian territorial waters last night in the north channel of the Amazon River mouth, about 50 miles from Macapa, capital of the northern territory of Amapa. The rebels took over the 3,126-ton government-owned freighter in the name of Venezuela's Armed Forces of National Liberation (FALN). They said they were protesting against the government of pro-American President Romulo Betancourt and first demanded the release of political prisoners in exchange for the ship and its crew. W. S. It was not known whether Zhikov's trip may signal some new move in the Sino-Soviet dispute, or whether he possibly had been called to Moscow to explain the much-publicized incidents in Bulgaria which led large numbers of African students to leave the country. Student resentment and disillusionment with Communist mistreatment of African students in Bulgaria was spotlighted last week when 17 Ghanaian youths left that country and flew to Vienna. There, they told a tale of Bulgarian racism and brutality. The official Soviet Tass News Agency said at the time that 300 Africans were studying in Bulgaria, receiving inexpensive vacations in student holiday homes and camps.
