Photo By Phil Muggers KU Bows To Sooners As Ellison, Unseld Rest The Jayhawkers' one-two scoring punch George Unseld and Nolen Ellison should be well-rested for tomorrow night's basketball encounter with Kansas State in Allen Field House. Neither saw much action Saturday against the Oklahoma Sooners. Both were in foul trouble early and fouled out of the game. Ellison played the longest of the two. He had only two fouls at half-time, but picked up three quick ones in the first four minutes and seven seconds of the second half and retired to the bench. UNSELD SPENT more time coming off the bench and onto the court and back onto the bench than he did playing. It was almost easy to tell that it might be a bad night when the 6-7 Louisville, Ky., center registered his first foul with only 37 seconds elapsed in the ball game. He picked up his third foul with 1:57 left in the first half. Coach Dick Harp left him in the game, however, only to see his prize product pick up foul number four with 44 seconds left in the first half. John Matt, who had rested Unseld once in the first half, started the second half. When Ellison fouled out, Unseld returned to the game for a brief visit. Three minutes and 45 seconds later, he fouled out. THE JAYHAWKERS remained in the game, even without the services of their two most valuable personnel. With Al Correl, who tied with OU's Stan Morrison for game scoring honors with 17 points, and Harry Gibson leading the attack, the Jayhawkers went ahead by three points, but then relinquished the lead and bowed to the Sooners 64-62. Gibson broke a Sooner three point margin with 24 seconds remaining on a jump shot. It looked as if the Jayhawkers might have a chance when Correll stole the ball from Morrison. Morrison, however, immediately tied him up as the two went flying to the floor-Oklahoma controlled the tip, and Matt fouled with five seconds remaining. Sooner Harvey Chaffin missed his first shot, but connected on the second giving OU a two point lead. KU brought the ball in and Correll attempted a last shot that hit the backboards hard, but went astray. NOW!
