FTC sees profit rise WASHINGTON (UPI) — The government said Wednesday sales by U.S. manufacturers climbed 9 per cent last year and profits rose 3 per cent despite a decline in earnings in the final quarter. The joint report by the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission said total sales in 1969 were higher in every category except the aircraft and bakery industries. The greatest after-tax advances, it said, were in drugs, primary metals, tobacco and dairy products.
