De George, University Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, was elected July 1 to serve a one-year term as president. DeGeorge was the vice-president for the association last year. For the first time since 1925, a KU professor has been elected President of the American Philosophical Association. The American Philosophical Association is the largest organization of its kind in the United States, with membership of more than 8,000. It is divided into three divisions: the academic office, DeGeorge is president of the central division, the oldest division, established in 1902. DeGeorge said he was pleased with the opportunity. DeGeorge is the second philosopher from KU to be president of the association. Edmund Hollands, a philosopher, was president from 1924 to 1925. As president, DeGeorge will lead the central division executive committee, serve on the national board of officers, and conduct the annual meeting of the association in New Orleans in April 1990.
