2 Wednesday, March 8, 1989 / University Daily Kansan Police capture youth after 111 mph ride The Associated Press TOPEKA — A Maryland juvenile who was driving a stolen car led police on a 140-mile chase that averaged 275 mph and ran out of gas and he was captured. The youth was being held in a juvenile detention center in Topeka yesterday afternoon pending the filing of charges. The chase started about 12:15 a.m. in Saline County on Interstate 70 when a Missouri Highway Patrol officer saw a car going faster than 100 mph, said Sgt. Jim Watson of the patrol. A computer check showed. Kansas officials joined the chase at the state line and followed the youth until the car ran out of gas three miles east of Topeka. The car ran several roadblocks as the chase continued west on I-70. that the car had been stolen in Maryland.
