House rejects Reagan's bid for contra aid United Press International WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives yesterday rejected President Reagan's appeal for $100 million for the Nicaraguan government, slapping aside his offer to hold back some military aid during a new bid for peace talks. In a statement read by presidential spokesman Larry Speakes, Reagan said the 222-210 defeat must be reversed. See related stories He vowed to shift his campaign today to the Senate in a bid to salvage the request, which called for $70 million in military assistance and $30 million in non-lethal aid. Both are KU SCA members. Society plays out medieval fantasy By Juli Warren Kansan Magazine writer Their hobby is assuming another way of life. From time to time, they cloak their mundane lives in flowing medieval dresses and clanking suits of armor and become someone else. "What about you?" the visitor GOES A curious visitor slips through the door of a meeting of the Society for Creative Anachronism and meets an apology that the group is not in garb. The newcomer turns to a woman clad in a green, velvety cape with an ornate pin and a floppy red and green brimless hat. "This is what I wear all the time," the woman says pleasantly. The society is a group of people who learn about the Middle Ages by re-enacting the dress and customs of that time. The group now has about 10,000 members across the country, according to members in Lawrence, which is known in the SCA as the Shire of Carlsby. The caped woman said later that her particular area of creativity in the society was sewing costumes. "What I like about costuming is wearing them," she said. "It's just a chance to be different." Members of the SCA say they are different. The interest in medieval life sets them apart from those not in the group. But SCA attracts all types of people. TIRED OF LIVING IN A DORM?
