Panel traces arms sale funds to Cayman Islands accounts

WASHINGTON — Oliver North set up three Swiss bank accounts in January 1986 as a result of a contact with contra leader Adofo Calero, the Senate Intelligence Committee said yesterday, but the panel said it could not determine whether the rebels had received any money.

Investigators probing the secret U.S. arms sales to Iran and the possible diversion of profits to the Nicaragua contras are focusing on offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands.
