Kansan staff writer Frances Horowitz, an internationally-respected researcher in child development and vice chancellor for research, graduate studies and public service, told about 100 staff members and psychologists that the study could help researchers predict the baby's behavior later in life. The newborn infant comes into the world much more behaviorally competent than people thought. The normal newborn infant relates to outside stimulation through its senses like sight, smell and hearing. At every stage, the infant is processing information.'
