In the first round, Friday, KU battles Richland Junior College in Dallas, which competed last year in championships. On Saturday, TLT will play. On Saturday KU plays the University of Houston. After the North Texas State tournament, KU goes to Matamoros, Mexico where they play the Instituto de Technologic de Matamoros (MIT). KU coach Bernie Mullin called the competition extremely difficult, but said that if his team played up to its potential it could emerge with national recognition. ON THEIR way back north, the Jayhawks on OKLAHOMA State, Oklahoma to take on OKLAHOMA State. The tournament will be scored according to North American Soccer League standards. Six points are awarded for a win, two additional points for a loss and one additional point per goal up to three. "The Dallas area really loves soccer, so some of the best teams in the country will be playing there." "If we can win it, we would be thrown in the national limelight." Winners from two divisions will then play each other for the championship, and the second place teams will compete for third. THE TWO teams that Mulligan won the best in the tournament are North Texas State and Southern Methodist Universi "If we play up to our full potential I will be in the finals, even though SMU is a very small team." He said he thought North Texas State would be the other division winner to win. KU plays Matamoros in the 15,000-seat municipal stadium, with Mullin said that he had been a strong supporter. "The major (university) sport in Matamores is football and they play mostly American teams, and usually get crushed," Mullin said. MULLIN SAID Matmatoras plays a very physical game, but slows down toward the end. Last year when KU played them, MIT and UNV played on him in a 4-1 lead before hanging on to win 4-3. "This is their chance to get hold of an American team in their own (national) sport. The people in the area should really turn out and make a lot of noise." "What we have to do is hold them early, and then really take it to them when they are ready." On the road home KU plays Oklahoma State, which叭叫milled a physical team. "We played them last year and lost 2-1," he said, "but the officiating was really bad and they got away with a lot they shouldn't have."
