Bob Stancillt is the head coach, and Diana Beebe is the assistant coach. The other is player-coach Debbie Kuhn, Atchison junior. Stancilf said yesterday that Kuhn provided leadership, both for the team and "I're翱ed on her for leadership on the floor," he said. "She is the quarterback—when things are going bad, she's the one that gets the girls' heads back in the game." Stancillis is one of the coaches who came to KU this year after a major shakeup of the coaching staff in the women's department, and Kluu was one of the critics of the For that reason, Stancillie said, he talked Kuhn about the decisions he made as an educator. "FOR MOST OF the year," he said, "I've looked to her for feedback. Within a short period of time, I could see that she was one of the leaders on the team, and she has needed me communicate with the other player. I think the other players look up to her." Kuhn said she thought Stancifl had done a good job this year. "We've all been open with him on what we thought about the team," she said. "He's done a lot of positive things with the team." She played well in her ball court as more than just playing hard. "I try to keep the enthusiasm going out on the floor," she said. "If it's not there, you're just going through the motions. I think it's up to the experienced players to keep the enthusiasm up, even though everything else is going wrong." STANCLIFT SAID that Kuhn also broke the ice on the court by being the first one to show aggressive play, and that her opponent was rubbed off on the other players. "I try to be scrawpy and aggressive as I can on defense," she said. "A lot of times feel like it's up to us to show the younger people what they see the rest of us being aggressive." The aggressiveness Kuhn has shown on the court was one of the reasons she was selected to the Big Eight Tournament team in late October, Stancifl said. Khn said, though, that one phase of her game had been disappointing for her this "I HAVEN'T IMPROVED on my hitting," she said. "I started out well, but I haven't satisfied myself as far as hitting goes." KU hasn't been relying on Kuhn for her hitting this year, Stancillift, said but she has helped out of off-speed hitting and dinks. "I'll keep the ball away," she said. "At times she is my smartest player. In combination with the other players, she has been really good."
