Most students can relate to the frustration of losing information on a computer, but three graduate students can relate to losing the computer as well. Computer thieves could have key burglary, it also would be responsible for the loss of years of research by the KU Institute for Public Policy and Business Research. By Mike I. Vargas A lost key may be connected with the burglary of computer equipment valued at $2,372 between 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday at Summerfield Hall, according to KU police reports. By Mike I. Vargas Kansan staff writer Because the key is still missing, there is a fear that other things will be taken, Bennett said. If the key is connected with the Unknown suspects entered a locked office using no obvious force and removed a computer, keyboard, monitor and printer, according to police reports. In addition, more than 95 computer diskettes were taken. "Everything that was lost was related to the institute," said Linda Bennett, secretary for the institute. "The lost time and work that was taken in software is not relevant to anyone but us." Three graduate students lost some of their research when their hard and floppy disks were taken, Bennett said. Jennifer Dam, research assistant, said she lost about a year-and-a-half's worth of research when all her computer diskettes were taken. Dam said she was fortunate she had printed some of the information. On campus "I was working on several projects," Dam said. "All the time I used to analyze the research is gone." ■ KJHK will have a local music show, "Plow the Fields, Martha," today at 4:30 p.m. on KJHK.
