UNIVERSITY DAILY KANSAN 29002274085 YCCHHHN CORNHUSKERS MEET GYMNASIUM TO BE JAYHAWKER FIVE AN ART GALLERY First Conference Game Wil Be Played in the Gym Tonight. RESULT IS MUCH IN DOUBT Nebraska Team Composed of Vetera Goal Tossers—Kansas Lacks Condition and Workwork. The game with Nebraska tonight will open the Conference schedule for Hamilton's Athletes. The result will not be considered in deciding the valley championship however. The reason for this lies in the fact that the Cornhuskers play in the northern division while the Jayhawkers are a southern section team. Nebraska is without doubt the team most to be feared in the race for basketball supremacy in the Conference. Three of their men Captain Frank, Gibson, and Carrier are veteran players. Gibson is playing in his old position at forward. His size coupled with his goal shooting ability makes him dangerous. Gibson will also be remembered as the Nebraska fullback in the late lamented session of November 18, 1911. Owen Frank is playing at guard again this year. He was conceded to be the all around star of the five last year. It is possible that a few may recall some other of his past performances. Carrier is playing his second year on the varsity and according to this season's press notices is carrying away the honors for individual playing. The Kansas team is far from its best form and it would not be surprising if Nebraska took one game. The men lack condition and with a heavy team as their opponents they are handicapped at the outset. Better team work than any produced by the defense, but players played before the locals can hope to successfully overcome the Nebraska defense. Nebraska has already won two Conference games in her division n the last of these Drake was defeated by a 35 to 14 score. Last night at Manhattan the Cornhuskins defeated the Aggies by the score of 28 to 25. Nebraska was trailing up to the last three minutes of play. In that three minutes they overcame a lead of eight points and a lead of nine seconds for the invaders. Carrier and Frank starred for the Nebraskans. In order that every "K" man may be better known individually to the students and general public, it is the intention of the athletic department to have a picture made of each man who has ever won a K and hang it in the corridors and rooms of Robinson gymnasium. Besides this a K book is to be started in which “K” men will each be given a page. A small picture of the man will be put on his page, his name, residence and record will be entered and the game or meet in which he took part together with the attendance, receipts and even the phone numbers given out on that occasion will be recorded. The records will commence with men as far back as they are able to be traced. The book will be kept in Coach Hamilton's office where during the athletic season entries may be made in it daily. The opening of this system will better enable the athletic authorities to keep track of the "K" men and will do away with so many "spindle shanks" and "chicken chests" grafting into games on their big brother's fraternity coach. Coach Hamilton said this fraternity would the future each "K" man would be asked to present a picture of himself to the athletic management. Not only will the pictures of the individual men be hung in the gymnasium but also almost fifty different pictures of football, baseball and other athletic contests of preceding years with the scores and result noted. These pictures will be hung within the next few weeks. SUFFER A SEVERE LOSS It tastes like maple. The maple nut ice cream at Wiedemann's. Harry Osborne the champion lon distance runner of the University ha left school to take a position as prii he attended the high school at Muskotu Knsag. Osborne's Departure Leaves the Track Team Without a Distance Runner. The vacancy caused by Osborne's departure puts the track team in a bad fix for distance men. It will now be necessary to develop entirely new material for the long grids. Osborne was one of the men who figured strongly in the hopes of the Kansas team for a successful season this spring. Formerly weak in track events it was thought that at least the man had been developed to be sure to register points for Kansas in the mile and two mile events. University's Star Athletes Will Establish a Clubroom in the Gymnasium PLANS TO BE MADE TONIGHT Vill Publish Athletic Directory and Entertain High School After the basket-ball game tonight the athletes of the University will meet at the Sigma Chi house for the purpose of reorganizing the K. club. All the men who have gained the honor of wearing the University uniforms of the club regardless of the sport in which the letter was won. The K. club was first organized in 1909. The intention of it at that time was to rent a house and manage the organization as a club. A table was to be run and the various teams were to eat together there during their respective training season. The club fell by the wayside the following year. One of the reasons for its failure was the opposition of the authorities to the operation of a table as an evasion of the rule against the training table. The athletes of the University have felt the loss of the club severely during the past two years and have decided to reorganize in order that the men in the various teams may have a common meeting ground. The meeting tonight is the first step in that direction. It is planned to fit up club room in the gymnasium where the men may meet and from which the club's activities may be directed. One of the enterprises suggested for the club is the compilation of arithmetic directory of the University giving a history of the athletic attainments of all the men who wear the K, and a record of all the performances of all the teams that have over represented the red and blue members all but twelve photographs of teams and individual uals. The club will also arrange a campaign for the purpose of interesting the best high school athletes in K U. athletics and for the encouraging their attendance at the University.
