12 AROUND THE BIG 12 The week ahead Compiled by Tim Dwyer The Aggies are coming off a huge week and have a chance to shake up the conference race with a victory against the Jayhawks on Monday. Former Jayhawk Mark Turgeon is at the helm for the Aggies, and he's got them hot at the right time. If they can knock off the Jayhawks, they'll still need some help to get a shot at the regular season crown, but it would be a huge step in the right direction. College Station is not an easy place to play, and the Aggies will try to keep their perfect home conference record alive when the Jayhawks come to town. Saturday Texas Tech vs. Baylor Waco, Texas, 7 p.m. Tuesday ASSOCIATED PRESS Big 12 Players of the Week Big 12 Player of the Week Donald Sloan, Texas A&M G Texas A&M could have easily lost its way after Derrick Roland, the second-leading scorer and best defender on the team, suffered a horrific broken leg 11 games ago. Sloan, Roland's best friend and the Agies' top scorer, has kept the ship righted despite that loss, though. He averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while leading Texas A&M to a perfect week. Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Ekpe Udoh, Baylor F Udoh's team went just 1-1 this week, but it wasn't because of a lack of production from the junior transfer from Michigan. He tallied 19 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in an 84-63 whooping of Iowa State, and added another 19 points three days later in a 78-71 road loss to Texas A&M. Since league play began, Udoh is second in the conference in blocks with 3.13 per game, trailing only Kansas' Cole Aldrich. Big 12 Team of the Week Texas A&M The Aggies, after starting the conference season 3-3, have gone 3-0 since to claim second place behind the Jayhawks. After knocking off Missouri on the road and Baylor at home, Texas A&M, which now sits just outside the top 25 in both polls, of a sudden looks like a team that could make some noise come March. Almost out of nowhere, the Big Monday matchup between Kansas and the Aggies is a huge game for the conference. Quick Hitters - In Oklahoma's upset of Texas, Sooner guard Cade Davis, who averages less than 10 points and four rebounds per game, finished with 20 and 10 for his second career double-double. - No.1 Kansas hasn't been dominant since taking over the top ranking for the second time this year. It went to overtime with Colorado and trailed in the second half to Nebraska. - Nebraska silenced Kansas big man Cole Aldrich for the second time this year. He finished with eight points and six rebounds Wednesday, and combined for 14 points and 15 boards on the season against the Huskers. - Missouri had its 32-game home winning streak broken by the Aggies of Texas A&M, who boast a 16-game home win streak of their own.
