The new building was 85 feet high, 344 feet long and 254 feet wide. The legend continues For 42 years, Kansas basketball has been played in Allen Field House. Although it looks the same on the outside as it did in 1955, the structure has evolved through several renovations and improvements. The field house today is used for volleyball, men's and women's basketball, sports information and the athletic department. Even though it continues to evolve, it always will be the home of the Jayhaws. The interior originally was painted olive green, and the building was shared by the athletic department, the physical education department and ROTC. For many years, the floor of the field house was dirt, except the locker rooms, wooden playing surface and office space. Dust posed a constant problem and cost thousands of dollars a year to clean up.
