One student's grade not reported on time
Anticipation met confusion by Eileen Mallon opened last semester's grade report. Where there should be no interest in the medical science course, she found a dot.
A dot on a grade report means that an instructor has failed to turn the grade in on time to the office of student records. A dot is then used in actual grade and removed when the grade is received and processed.
Mallon said she eventually got an explanation from her sister, who works for the University of Kansas. But others must often wait to end their confusion until they can call KU.
Many students feared that instructors would miss the Dec. 25 deadline for turning in grades because some of them
"I didn't know what it meant when I first opened it up," said Mallon, Kansas City. Kan, senior. "There are other colleges out there, and my GPA wasn't totaled."

Late dates for finals caused few problems, official says
Thompson said that late grades should pose no problems for students graduating or seeking transcripts at the end of the fall semester because grades are usually only a few days late.

"Even if it were a little longer than that, it wouldn't matter." Thompson said. "It takes a while to send out transcripts and we haven't even received diplomas yet."
"About every seven years, we have to begin school a week later or eventually we would end up starting school in July." Thompson said.

Thompson said that the tall semester always lasted 20 days, regardless of when it began. Because of the calendar, the semester begins a day earlier each year so that the last day of finals always falls on a Friday.
last semester's finals were scheduled as late as Dec. 23. But Gary Thompson, director of student records, said that this was not the case.
"They actually had one more day than usual from the time finals were over and grades were due," he said.
