O'Connor said that the University of Nebraska's liver transplant program was one of the three most active in the nation. A three-doctor team from Iowa and Indiana treated Robert Stratta have performed 235 transplants since July 1983.

Surgery on Rick Castaneda, Kansas City, Kan., senior, could last eight to 12 hours, said Tom O'Connor, a public affairs official at the hospital.
O'Connor said that Castaneda was transported to Omaha on Oct. 24 and that a liver was donated within 24 hours of when surgery was to begin.
