My dear Sir
I have often
remembered the
large share you
had in our
deliverance at
Scutari.
I now venture
to send you a copy
of my Report to the
War Office, which
is really "confidential"

& in no sense public
property.
I am sure you
will look upon it
as it is meant - viz.
strictly private.
If you ever have
occasion & time to
look into it, you
will be reminded
of some scenes we
have passed through
together - of some of the
causes which
brought about the
[Page 4 of 4]
frightful evils of
those places & of
the indomitable
patience of our
men who had
to bear them.
