University of Kansas Student Protests, March 28, 1979
March 26, 1979, Begin and Sadat agreed to sign a treaty during the Camp David Accords mediated by Carter. Egypt and Israel agreed to declare peace and end hostilities. Israel was to relinquish control of oil fields in the Sinai while Egypt agreed to end the war. The Accords were opposed by other Arab countries because they believed Egypt would no longer back them in disputes against Israel and because the Accords did not guarantee the creation of a Palestinian state.
