On December 11, 1970 at 11:00 p.m. a bomb constructed from dynamite exploded in Summerfield Hall destroying an entire wall, metal doors, boxes of papers, etc. Debris from the blast littered Sunnyside Avenue. Though the bombing was invesitgated by the FBI, the case was never solved. The bombing was another incident in a string of fire bombings, shootings, and police-protester conflicts that took place throughout 1970 in Lawrence.
